Microsoft Office XP - Illustrated Introductory

Course Description:
In this course, the student will learn the most important topics of Microsoft Office XP. They are first presented with a quick review of the Office Suite, Windows, and Internet Explorer. Next, they will learn more advanced skills for Word, Excel, Access and PowerPoint; each application is covered in four units. They will learn how to use Object Linking and Embedding (OLE) to create integrated Office documents in four units that follow the Excel, Access, Word, and PowerPoint sections. The last section of the course provides an overview of Outlook.
Text/Materials:
Text: Beskeen/Duffy/Friedrichsen/Reding, Microsoft Office XP - Illustrated Introductory, Course Technology, 2002.
Project files: Spectrum WebFX will provide instructions on a CD of Project files.
Software: Microsoft Office XP, Internet Explorer 5, and Windows 2000 will be used. Another operating system may be used, but students may notice some differences in the appearance of certain dialog boxes.
Teaching Methods:
Lectures/Demonstrations: Important material from the text and outside sources will be covered in each session. Student should plan to take careful notes as not all material can be found in the texts or readings. Discussion is encouraged as is student-procured, outside material relevant to topics being covered.
Assignments: Concepts Reviews, Skills Reviews, Independent Challenges and other projects and readings will be periodically assigned to help support and supplement material found in the lessons. These assignments may require the application of various software applications.
Exams: Three exams will be given. The exams will be open book/note and will test assigned readings and material discussed in class. The final exam will not be comprehensive in nature. However, the instructor reserves the right to retest on material that was not appropriately comprehended.
