using email and navigating the Web using a Web browser. Using
Web-based tools, advanced email and communication tools, downloading
programs and files, and increasing Web browser capabilities
and security are also covered. Basic experience with Windows

the Web site will be updated with new links.
Software: Internet Explorer or Netscape, and Windows
XP. Another operating system may be used, but students may notice
some differences in the appearance of certain dialog boxes.
Prerequisite:
A basic understanding of Windows
95, 98, 2000, Me, or XP.
Teaching Methods:
Lectures/Demonstrations: The
first half of each class will be used to highlight the important
material within each unit using discussions, handouts and computer
demos. Important material from the text and outside sources
will be covered in each session. Student should plan to take
careful notes as not all material can be found in the texts
or readings. Discussion is encouraged as is student-procured,
outside material relevant to topics being covered.
Labs: The last half of each
class is dedicated to hands-on learning, facilitated by the
instructor. You will work at your own pace during this portion
of the class to solidify the lesson material or to begin work
on the weekly projects.
Projects: Each project consists
of three parts: the Concepts Review, Skills Review, and Visual
Workshop from the end of the unit discussed during that week.
Ten projects that correlate to Units A-J will be assigned throughout
the course.
Quizzes: Five hands-on quizzes
will be given. Quiz exercises are pulled from the Independent
Challenges at the end of each unit.
