Why Most New Websites Fail

Most new websites fail. There are tons of e-books and programs out there that proclaim they have the easiest no-fail solutions to online success –“get your website up in minutes and make $1,000 your first day”…. you’ve heard and seen the hype. Unfortunately, unless you’re sitting on a “lucky horseshoe”, you’ll need more than a 30minute instruction video to guarantee a successful web presence.

There can be many reasons a website fails, but the main ones are:

Using Cookie cutter websites – Templates are very tempting because with little effort you can have an amazing looking site. The problem with this method is that your website is going to look just like thousands of other sites, and Google will devalue your site from the get-go.

Producing a rushed website – Designing a proper website takes time and thought. No matter what the ads and videos say, if you expect to do your site in one day, you are not attending to the necessary details, let alone the search engine optimization, search engine marketing and back link details.

No thought to Search Engine Optimization (SEO) – If you don’t get your SEO right, you might as well do a blank website page because you’ll not get any traffic anyway.

No thought to Search Engine Marketing (SEM) – You must develop a plan on how you are going to drive traffic to your site, (free advertising, paid advertising, social networks, etc.)

To avoid being a statistic, don’t cut corners on the basics. You need to apply the same traits as if you were getting ready to open a storefront business – hard work, dedication, perseverance and a natural curiosity to continue learning as much as possible

Whether you are doing your website yourself, or you are hiring a designer/developer to do it for you, you need to be actively involved to insure that these key points are implemented.

Many web developers have a graphic arts background and some are still hung up on how a page looks rather than how many sales it will create, so whether you are doing your website yourself, or you are hiring a designer/developer to do it for you, you need to be actively involved to insure that these key points are implemented.
